2026-02-05 PSC Meeting Summary:

  • Had office hours with Brett, where we discussed:
    • Progress on the platforms directory reorganization, with a goal of completing the migration before beta 1 to avoid backporting complications.
    • WASI binary releases: we are supportive, and next steps include looping in the release manager and beginning beta testing.
    • The growing role of third-party tooling in the Python user experience.
  • In the general portion of our meeting, we:
    • Continued to discussed the growing role of third-party tooling (particularly uv) in the Python user experience, and the implications for onboarding, documentation, and how this affects the ecosystem and our relationship with it.
    • We are continuing to think through how CPython can provide a better out-of-the-box experience for new users.
    • Discussed the PEP process and its impact on community and corporate engagement, and will continue exploring improvements.
    • Will open some public discussion about some of these topics in the future.
  • Began discussing travel grants. We are still waiting on budget clarity before we can finalize guidance, but we aim to have a decision soon.
  • Next meeting’s agenda:
    • Follow-ups on the Python packaging and tooling ecosystem
