2026-02-19 PSC Meeting Summary

  • Hood Chatham joined the SC for Office Hours
    • Discussed three PEPs related to Emscripten support:
      • PEP 776, an Informational PEP outlining basic Emscripten support
      • PEP 818, a proposal to lift the core of Pyodide’s FFI into core CPython
      • PEP 783, adding a new platform tag to support Emscripten wheels
    • The discussions were quite productive, and while no formal approval request has yet been filed on the steering-council issue tracker, the SC provided (hopefully!) useful feedback on the specifics of each PEP.
  • After the Office Hours session, the SC conducted our regular business.
    • We finalized our response to PEP 743, which was posted to DPO after the meeting’s conclusion (PEP 743 – Add Py_COMPAT_API_VERSION to the Python C API (take 2) - #20 by thomas)
    • We discussed and approved PEP 747 - Annotating Type Forms; the acceptance message was posted to DPO after the meeting’s conclusion (PEP 747: TypeExpr: Type Hint for a Type Expression - #103 by savannahostrowski)
    • We continued to discuss PEP 816 - WASI Support, its guarantees around SDK compatibility at the beta 1 milestone, and the requirements to keep PEP 11 updated on those decisions. No conclusion was made yet, and we will continue to discuss this PEP at our next meeting.
    • We continued our discussions about the speed.python.org benchmark runner machines, including where and how to pay for their hosting. The 2025 SC approved the money, but hosting couldn’t be lined up at the time. The 2026 SC is still supportive of this proposal, although no conclusion was made at this meeting.
    • An issue was opened on the SC tracker requesting a decision on adding sponsorship logos to devguide.python.org. Python’s download page already includes logos for Visionary Sponsors. The SC will discuss this with the PSF ED next week at our regular sync meeting.
    • We discussed the need to get more direct user feedback on PEPs that propose changes to the C API. Some of this falls under our ongoing deeper look into the PEP process as a whole.
  • Agenda for next meeting:

Hi Barry! Thanks for these notes. I’m not sure if this is the right place to put this request, but just hoping someone can give me a heads up on what you end up deciding re sponsor logo placement on devguide.python.org/? Just for my knowledge on where we are acknowledging sponsors. Thank you!!

We haven’t decided anything yet, other than that we need to discuss it with Deb; see the agenda for the next meeting, which is this Thursday.
