The 2026-02-26 Steering Council meeting summary:
- Regular Developer-in-Residence sync-up with Łukasz. We discussed progress updates to speed.python.org, some technical work he’s been doing, his upcoming Python conferences, and briefly the Language Summit at EuroPython.
- With the PSF Executive Director, we discussed sponsor logos on devguide.python.org, the Core Dev sprint and the Language Summit planning, and the PyCon US Steering Council keynote.
- We discussed PEP 788 (Protecting the C API from Interpreter Finalization) some more, in preparation for the Office Hours with the PEP author in three weeks.
- We discussed a request for a change to the published GitHub org policy to allow docs translation repos to be created directly under the python org (rather than created elsewhere and then moved when they mature enough). This fell off of the previous SC’s agenda, but the SC accepted the suggested change.
- We continued the discussion of PEP 816 (WASI Support) from last week, concluding it by accepting the PEP.
- We continued the discussion around the PEP process, specifically the struggles, potential improvements, and concrete problems different PEP authors provided us with. This needs much more time, so we will be dedicating the majority of next week’s meeting on this.
Agenda for next week:
- Office hours
- The PEP process.
