A unique favicon please!

(Gregory P. Smith) #1

Everything on python.org has the same favicon. This makes tabs indistinguishable. As the icon is the LHS most unique always visible part of any browser tab can we please make a unique one for discuss that stands out? Otherwise it’ll be lost among my bazillion devguide, PEPs, and open bugs.python.org tabs.

Perhaps “the foot” stomping a python logo. Or a simple 16 ton weight depiction.

(Steve Dower) #3

The blue/yellow icon over our gravatars would also work nicely.

I went for @steve.dower’s suggestion. Now the favicon is in the style of the “core Python dev” flair. Thanks for your input!

I don’t understand. The favicon I see here (Firefox 62, Ubuntu 18.04) is the usual Python logo.

Try a hard refresh. Try in a Private Window.

(Barry Warsaw) #7

It doesn’t completely blend into the background of a Chrome incognito tab, but it looks pretty good anyway.

I tried a hard refresh, I tried clearing the browser cache, I tried in a private window, and I disabled some plugins. I still don’t get the new favicon on Firefox. It works in Chromium, though.

Edit: I also tried on a different Firefox profile that hadn’t never seen this site before, and still got the old favicon. So there might be inconsistent settings on the server. ISTR the way of fetching a favicon varies from browser to browser…

Ok, the site is indeed misconfigured. Here is an excerpt of the HTML head:

There are three possible icons there, and here is how they look like:

This is now fixed.

Thanks @ambv!
