Hi Cliff and welcome to the python forum.  
This is the right place to ask your questions.

You might also have a look on this site: [4. Using Python on Windows — Python 3.12.6 documentation](https://docs.python.org/3/using/windows.html)  
There are many details, but you should read up to chapter 4.1.1.

Personally I prefer to use the python launcher. Its basics are described in chapter 4.8.1.1.
