The current state of free-threading support in Cython is summarised [here](https://cython.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/userguide/freethreading.html) together with some opinionated suggestions. Currently that needs the Cython 3.1 pre-release version, but hopefully the actual release isn’t too far off.
