It sounds like there isn’t an objection to adding a new keyword argument to opt into this behavior, at least. I’ll look at that.
Another thing that might help is some kind of ThreadPoolExecutor replacement on PyPI that handles context variables in the way I’d like by default and makes it possible to get the sensible behavior on older Python versions.
