That seems like a good approach, thanks! If the flit maintainers are happy to have a bootstrap install script, then it makes things much simpler for us.
Then we’ll just have to make sure all runtime dependencies of build and installer are using flit core. I think they should only be pep517 and tomli, which already do, so all seems good there
