The [changes in beta 1](https://github.com/python/pymanager/releases/tag/26.4b1) are more interesting (though I forgot to post about them), but the two main changes are that ARM64 machines will now default to the ARM64 platform (that is, `py -3.15` is equivalent to `py -3.15-arm64` on an Arm device), and support has been added for `HTTP_PROXY`, `HTTPS_PROXY` and `NO_PROXY` environment variables.

Previously, the OS-wide proxy settings and authentication were respected, giving transparently good behaviour for most users, consistent with other native apps. These variables allow manual override of the global settings for special cases.

The change to the default platform is synchronised with our Windows Arm64 builds leaving “Experimental” status, as [discussed/announced](https://discuss.python.org/t/python-on-windows-arm64/104524/1) previously. To avoid this, update [your configuration](https://docs.python.org/3/using/windows.html#configuration) to set `default_platform` (`%PYTHON_MANAGER_DEFAULT_PLATFORM%`) to `-64`.
