Steve meant it when he said he was done with posting here, so I’ll confirm (without having been asked to by him, and at the risk of annoying him) that you did the right thing. He knew about the typo, and if he didn’t want it to stand, would have edited the post himself.
To my mind, that he very uncharacteristically left off the trailing “e” says something about his state at the time. History is best served by letting it speak for itself, unaltered.
