Lets not bicker and argue about who surveys who.
If I was to reimagine a PSF-approved survey I think here are some starting points:
- the Steering Council members each run on a platform which usually comes with an agenda. Why don’t we survey the community for aspects of that agenda (both to help us with future endeavors and see how we did on past ones)?
- We have several working groups (typing, documentation, packaging(?)). What information would be most useful for them to do their jobs?
- Yes yes “state of the Python” questions as well. Who is using what and how makes for good summaries and McMegaCorps can use that. Hopefully for the betterment of all of us
- And finally, what the PSF could use info on as well (for fundraising, or for conference organizing, or for Infrastructure purposes)
Honestly speaking, I’d love to know if there’s any hard blockers to a PSF-independent survey outside of:
- getting in cahoots with a survey vendor (they usually have generous nonprofit deals)
- Volunteer time to wrangle cats
I’d be willing to throw my hat in for 2!
