2026-09-10 Python Steering Council meeting summary

  • Regular check-in with the Deputy Developer-in-Residence (Petr), discussing the state of the project.
  • The Steering Council discussed PEP 836 (JIT Go Brrr: The Path to a Supported JIT Compiler for CPython) and the draft response to the questions asked at SC Office Hours (since posted).
  • The SC discussed the draft of the Developer-in-Residence job opening, and the interview and candidate evaluation process.
  • The SC discussed the question of whether its acceptance of RISC-V as a tier 3 platform was meant to apply to 3.15 or only 3.16, which was raised on Discord. (We meant for it to apply to 3.16 only but leave it open for the Release Manager to make the final call.) We’ve also added a discussion on what PEP 11’s tiers actually mean to the list of topics to cover at the Core Team sprint at OpenAI in October.
  • The SC discussed the question about intersection of packaging and CPython PEPs and responded on the issue.
  • The SC discussed and approved the request for a tutle-translations repo in the python GitHub org.
  • Agenda for next week:
    • Continued discussions
