Accidental flagging, does it happen to anyone else?

Hey. I think I’ve only ever flagged posts by accident in this discourse. Or maybe, I think, once in the Recent Topical Discussions I flagged what I perceived as an overzealous moderator message as offensive. But I don’t find the UI very intuitive. Actually, is there a way to see how many posts I have flagged? (I suspect not)?

I remember that I got the First Flag badge for accidentally flagging a post that I considered a valuable contribution (yet it could have been considered controversial) and that I was replying to. When I finished my reply quite a bit later, the entire thread had been deleted. It felt quite annoying to get a badge for accidentally flagging a post I considered valuable.

Consider this: When viewing a comment, I see something like this:

9 :heart::link:

When I click the …, I’d expect to see a menu. Instead, it’s replaced by a flag. And I if I press that, I think it will immediately tell me “thank you for flagging this bad person and keeping our site clean!”.

When jumbling with my phone, it’s not rare to make misclicks. I often accidentally like something and then unlike it.

Huh, strange. When I click on the ... I get two icons, a flag and a bookmark. If I click the flag I get a whole menu of different options. This happens in both mobile and desktop browsers (Firefox). I wonder what causes this discrepancy in UX?

It’s a three-step process:

  1. Click the flag icon.
  2. Select the reason for flagging the post.
  3. Click the ‘Flag Post’ button.

Ah, so it didn’t happen yet when it said “thanks”? Ok, then it’s not as bad as I thought. Somehow I apparently still managed to do it accidentally, or imagined so.

Maybe you are accidentally clicking the bookmark symbol and thinking that is the flagging symbol? That one reacts instantly and changes color.
