Indexing PEPs in Python's Web Search

Hi everyone,

I was wondering why PEPs are not indexed in the Python website’s search function. Given how fundamental they are to understanding Python’s evolution and rationale, it seems like they should be more easily discoverable.

This would be particularly useful when discussing different topics across this forum -this is how i have realized they are not indexed-. Instead of manually searching for relevant PEPs via an external search engine, having them indexed in the official Python search (or maybe adding the search in the subdomain, peps.python.org) would streamline discussions and help find useful information more efficiently.

I realize this topic might be more suited for the PEPs section rather than the Ideas section, but this is not a pep itself.

What do you all think? Would this be a worthwhile improvement?

Yes, we do need to at least add search to the peps.python.org website.

We already have an issue and a work-in-progress PR.

I’ve moved it to the documentation section.
