Intro & best place to start contributing?

Quick intro of myself. I’m going on 30 years working in IT with the majority of my career spent as a Linux sysadmin and Perl developer. I got into management about 9 years ago and haven’t written a lot of code since then.

Since I work in cybersecurity now I find myself using Python rather frequently and am working on becoming more proficient in the language. I would like to contribute to the community as I learn so I’m posting here hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have a bit of experience in Debian packaging and did some maintenance of CPAN packages many years ago. I would be interested in assisting with PyPI if there’s opportunity there. Can anyone suggest a good place an old Perl guy who’s a Python beginner could help out?

There’s a category on this forum for packaging (Packaging - Discussions on Python.org), maybe you could read/participate in discussions here and pick up a few issues in the packaging related github repos?

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll start browsing there and have been looking for good first issue bugs. Reading up on the PEP process as well to see if I can assist with governance/documentation etc.
