New User - Security and benefits of python (UK Based)

Hi all,
I hope you are well.
I work for local government here in the UK. We currently use SQL to extract data from a number of databases, and power BI to present. We’re exploring the benefits of python, but are experiencing some resistance from colleagues in our IT dept.
2 things we need to resolve with them are;

  1. Security - potential risks of using python and any issues with patching? The have concerns about us using python to extract data and how we then use it. Our argument is we can do that already with SQL, so there are no additional risks
  2. What benefits will python give us that SQL/ PBI cannot? Any examples (easy to read snappy) of this would be great
