Starting Punjabi (pa-IN) Translation of Python Documentation

Hello everyone,

I have started a Punjabi (India) translation effort for the Python documentation and would like to introduce the project and ask for guidance from the documentation translation community.

Repository:

Current progress:

  • tutorial/introduction.po — completed
  • tutorial/controlflow.po — completed
  • tutorial/appetite.po — completed
  • tutorial/interpreter.po — completed

Project infrastructure currently includes:

  • Translation style guide
  • Glossary
  • Contributor guidelines
  • GitHub Actions validation workflow

I would appreciate guidance on a few questions:

  1. Is there any existing Punjabi translation effort that I should coordinate with?

  2. Should Punjabi documentation use the language code pa or pa-IN?

  3. What is the recommended process for becoming an officially recognized translation project?

  4. Are there any requirements or milestones that should be completed before requesting inclusion on the translation dashboard?

  5. Are there any current translation tools or workflows preferred by the Python documentation team that I should adopt before continuing further work?

I would be grateful for any recommendations from maintainers and current translation coordinators.

Thank you.

Hello again Bhuvanash!

Since I’ve already answered some of those questions in the Discord thread, please let’s continue there.
