Hello folks!

In case you missed it, the Python Packaging Council is being established this year with the acceptance of PEP 772. :confetti_ball:

I’m starting this topic as a place to share announcements related to the election, since a lot of the folks interested in Python Packaging are active here. If you want to discuss the election, I do request that happen in a separate topic from this one.

With the context setting out of the way, here’s the first election announcement covering the election timeline, with some words on the council and who might want to consider running for it!

Nominations open: Tuesday, July 28th, 2:00 pm UTC

You can find more details about it: nominating yourself or someone else for the council for this inaugural election in the announcement that just went up!

The first link contains the following

I set up a PSF account and emailed pc-elections@python.org, but the email bounced with[1]:

                   The mail system
<pradyun@python.prg> (expanded from <pc-elections@python.org>): Host or domain
    name not found. Name service error for name=python.prg type=A: Host not
    found

Note .prg vs. .org in pradyun@python.prg, which looks like the most likely culprit.

Is that an extra admin step we need to do? I have a PSF account (I needed it to register as a contributing member) but I haven’t done anything packaging related with it, as I wasn’t aware I needed to.

I think it’s only to expedite getting to vote; I bet having an account at psfmember.org does not automatically mean you’re set up/flagged as a member in good standing. Any PSF member can vote for the PPC as long as they affirm they want to vote. My guess is if 2026 Voting Affirmation – Python Software Foundation shows you having selected " I wish to exercise my right to vote in the Packaging Council Election this year", then you’re fine (that’s what I have for me at least).

Yeah, it all seems fine. I guess part of the problem is that I’ve never voted in the PSF elections, and the various posts reminding everyone to make sure they are set up correctly, have remembered to register, etc (for both the PSF elections and the PC elections, even though I only elected to vote in the PC elections) are all a bit unnerving for someone new to the process[1].
