The Inaugural Python Packaging Council election (2026)

Hello folks!

In case you missed it, the Python Packaging Council is being established this year with the acceptance of PEP 772. :confetti_ball:

I’m starting this topic as a place to share announcements related to the election, since a lot of the folks interested in Python Packaging are active here. If you want to discuss the election, I do request that happen in a separate topic from this one.

With the context setting out of the way, here’s the first election announcement covering the election timeline, with some words on the council and who might want to consider running for it!

We’re excited to announce the candidates for the inaugural Python Packaging Council :tada:

Nomination and supporting statements are the clearest way to see how each candidate actually thinks: their priorities, experience, and vision for the PPC. Rather than just voting on name recognition, we encourage you to read each candidate’s nomination and supporting statements. Reading these statements helps ensure your vote reflects what the candidates would actually do in the role.

(edit: whoops, there’s a broken link – I need to fix that! https://www.python.org/nominations/elections/2026-python-packaging-council/nominees/ is the correct link!)

I received a ballot this morning for the PSF Board election, but not for the PPC election. Was there some delay? Did I misunderstand my own eligibility to vote?

I recieved the PPC email six minutes before the PSF one.

Check your spam, and also check your voting affirmation at 2026 Voting Affirmation – Python Software Foundation. I have “I wish to exercise my right to vote” selected for both.

And, as of yesterday: the voting is open!

Since I’m a candidate in the election, this and subsequent blog posts will be authored by one of the folks actually running the election – I have no access to the voting infrastructure, for hopefully obvious reasons.

We’re midway through the voting period!

If you’d affirmed your intention to vote, you can find the details on finding your ballot in the blog post linked above.
