I think it’s time to promote Itamar Oren to the Core Team.
- Promote Itamar Oren
- Do not promote
Itamar has been a triager since July 2023, has given two Language Summit talks and organized the 2024 Core Dev sprint at Meta in Bellevue (Seattle). It’s a clear oversight that he wasn’t already promoted (probably partly to do with not having a mentor, because, well, I don’t think anyone thought he needed one?)
But just in case there are voters who haven’t been interacting with Itamar, let me reiterate some of his contributions. He’s worked on asyncio eager tasks and other asyncio optimizations, is very actively involved with the buildbots and CI, regularly tackles testsuite breakages and triaged many, many issues and PRs. He’s also actively involved in the larger Python community, champions the PSF and Python within Meta, and brings lessons learned within Meta into CPython.
In the spirit of full disclosure, he and I both work at Meta and currently report to the same manager (although we’re not on the same team). That has nothing to do with my bringing this vote or my conviction that it’s long overdue, however. (I’ve worked with Itamar on CPython and community work well before I joined Meta.)
As for post-promotion mentoring, I’m more than happy to provide whatever mentorship Itamar will need, or what people think he will need (which I fully expect will be none what so ever).
