Vote to promote Malcolm Smith

I’d like to nominate Malcolm Smith (@mhsmith here & on GitHub) for promotion to the core team.

Malcolm maintains CPython for Android, starting in 2023 with PEP 738. He runs the Android buildbot. He’s authored 80 merged PRs, opened 27 issues. His focus is narrow, but CPython likely couldn’t support Android without him. I don’t think I’m the only one who trusts him completely with anything Android-related.

(You may note that I’m the PEP 11 contact for Android. I signed up mainly for process reasons and as an emergency backup; Malcolm is long due to replace me there.)

I don’t often get the chance to work with Malcolm, but the few times I have, it’s always been a pleasure. His expertise and dedication to Android support have been invaluable. +1!

I’ve hesitated from nominating Malcolm myself because he works with me at Anaconda, and he’s also a contributor to BeeWare, and I wanted to avoid any hint of nepotism.

However, now that someone else has nominated him… Malcolm knows Android inside out, and the PRs he presents are consistently high quality. I have no hesitation in supporting his nomination to the core.
