Vote to promote Pieter Eendebak

I’d like to propose promoting Pieter Eendebak (@eendebakpt; @eendebakpt on GitHub) to the Python core team.

Pieter has been a steady and high-quality CPython contributor since 2022, and a member of the Python triage team since November 2024. He has authored 100+ merged CPython PRs, including 60+ since the beginning of 2025, across performance work, free-threading, reference-management fixes, and newer interpreter/JIT internals.

His recent work includes making several iterators and modules safer under free-threading, improving scaling and lock behavior in copy, deepcopy, frozenset, _json, and itertools, fixing reference leaks and crash-prone error paths in the core interpreter, and contributing optimizations in areas such as json, re, unicodedata, the int implementation, datetime, inspect, PySequence_GetSlice, and the JIT.

In addition to contributing code himself, he has reviewed hundreds of PRs by others, and has made thoughtful contributions to many discussions.
I am excited to welcome him to the core team.

If Pieter is promoted, I’m happy to mentor and advise him as needed.

I thought he already was a core dev when I last met him?
