Introducing monthly PSF Board Office Hours!

Greetings, Pythonistas- thank you so much for supporting the work of the PSF and the Python community! The current PSF Board has decided to invest more in connecting and serving the global Python community by establishing a forum to have regular conversations. The board members of the PSF with the support of PSF staff are excited to introduce monthly PSF Board Office Hours on the PSF Discord. The Office Hours will be sessions where you can share with us how we can help your community, express your perspectives, and provide feedback for the PSF :snake::mega:

nice addition - thank you. Would the team consider setting up a google calendar of these mtgs – people can just subscribe to (or some other easy way to add to calendar)?

I’m unlikely to manually add all the appts listed at https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2024/08/ask-questions-or-tell-us-what-you-think.html

Also, a shared calendar should put appointments in users local timezone automatically

non-urgent / nice-to-have

Thank you for the comment & feedback. I was actually discussing this exact idea with a couple of Board members earlier today  We are figuring out the best approach from our end and I will be sure to update this thread and the blog post once we get it all set up.

great! looking forward to that update when it’s ready @Marie Nordin

Hi folks  I set up a public calendar for the PSF Office Hour sessions (both the Board & Grants). You can add it to your calendar by clicking the “+” button at the bottom of the page.

Hello Marie,

I might be mistaken but this calendar looks empty. Is that right?

It should hold the PSF Board Office Hours and the PSF Grants Program Office Hours. Does this link work for you? Python Software Foundation Office Hours

Yes it shows on that one. Thank you.

I think I’m not doing it right at all today

The blog post mentioned 9pm UTC which was about 10mn ago my timezone. However, I have no clue where the meeting is held on discord. It’s quite unclear as i’m not an usual Discord user.

Also, I wonder if voice is required for these office hours? If so, considering I’m not active enough the discord has denied my voice verification.

Apologies for not sounding bright but I’m afraid I’ll have to skip these meetings.

9pm UTC is in 4 minutes from now: UTC - Time.is

And here’s a link for the Discord server: Python Software Foundation

Look for the #psf-board channel. Should be easy to find, as there’s not many and it’s the only one that will be open.

Voice not needed, it’s a text-only chat.

Thanks Hugo!

edit: I now realise what I did, I assumed we were on UTC+1 already when we only change in a couple of weeks where I live. I’ll double check next time.
